CSCA Mathematics: the exact format, measured from real 2025–2026 papers
Most CSCA prep advice is copied from syllabus documents. We took a different route: we measured the official past papers in our bank — every question tagged by topic and difficulty — and this is what the mathematics paper actually looks like.
The shape of the paper
- 48 single-choice questions in 60 minutes — that is 75 seconds per question. Speed is a first-class skill here, not an afterthought.
- Four options, exactly one correct, no penalty for guessing.
- Computer-based: you answer on screen, with an on-screen timer and a question grid for navigation. If you have never used the interface, our mock mode replicates it.
What the questions test, by weight
Measured across recent official sittings, the topic distribution is stable and heavily concentrated:
- Functions, sets and algebra carry roughly half of the paper — domain/range, logarithms and exponents, inequalities, sequences.
- Trigonometry and vectors form the second block, about a quarter of the paper.
- Solid and analytic geometry — lines, conics, spatial reasoning — around one question in eight.
- Probability, statistics and counting appear in a small but reliable cluster.
- The remainder rotates through complex numbers and miscellaneous topics.
The practical consequence: an hour spent on functions is worth several times an hour spent on the rare topics. Our question bank is filterable by exactly these topics, so you can spend your time where the paper spends its marks.
How hard is it really?
By our tagging, roughly half the paper is fundamentals, a strong third is standard textbook level, and only a handful of questions per sitting are genuinely hard. Word problems are rare — under one question in twenty; the exam prefers short, symbol-dense stems (the median stem is under 90 characters).
That mix rewards a specific strategy: bank the easy half fast and clean, then spend your remaining time on the standard block. The few hard questions are worth the same one mark as the easy ones — never let them eat your clock.
